The Light in the Amazon

In a remote region of the Peruvian Amazon, lies the small village of Chino. What makes Chino unique to the rest of the villages in the area is its accessibility to a full campus of education. The village has a preschool, a primary school, and a high school. This opportunity of a three-curriculum campus system wasn’t always the case though. Over 10 Years ago, there was only a primary school. Thankfully, with collaborated efforts from Be the Change Volunteers (BTCV), Tahuayo Lodge, Angels of the Amazon, and the Chino community, building a high school became a reality. Now with the high school finished, the village has decided to put the primary school next to where the high school is. Due to flooding of the tributary during the wet season, it makes it difficult for children to go to primary school. The high school is situated in an area that isn’t affected by the rising river, making it a perfect spot for another school. With building still happening, all hands are on deck and hopes are high for the children of Chino this dry season.
